OUT OF CHAOS, HOPE
January 3-11, 2007  ~  Mission trip to New Orleans

Nine individuals from Oahe Presbyterian Church and First Presbyterian of Onida traveled to New Orleans on January 3rd to spend a week helping out as best they could.  The group was joined by John Huisman, elder at First Presbyterian Church of Rapid City and the Rev. Ann Johnson of Chicago, Illinois.

We divided into two groups.  One group worked on a home in the Gentilly neighborhood of New Orleans...removing and replacing the entire back wall of the house and replacing windows in the house.  The second group moved on to the Lakeview neighborhood and plumbed the house as well as taped and mudded the drywall in the remainder of the home.

Rolly Kemink from Onida, Ken and Cindy Droppers and Larry and Meleta DeJong from Pierre.

Termites have eaten away not only at the floor but at all the walls.  When we commented that the house appeared as though it should be bulldozed not repaired Pastor Cliff replied that it was one of the homes in Gentilly that was in better shape than the others.
