PARKING LOT USE POLICY
The parking lot at Oahe Presbyterian Church, 2115 East Capitol, Pierre,
SD is provided primarily for the use of members and friends of the
congregation in connection with events at the church.
Short-term parking for school events at Buchanan Elementary School or
brief visits to those who live in the neighboring homes will be allowed
when there is not a conflict with the need for parking of vehicles for an
event held at Oahe Presbyterian Church.
Overnight parking, unless by someone from the church, is not allowed.
Owners of vehicles parked in violation of this policy will be requested
to move vehicles. In the event this is not done, arrangements will be made
for having the vehicles towed and impounded.
Procedure When Unauthorized Parking Occurs:
A representative of the congregation, applying Biblical principles of
consideration, will attempt to deal directly with the owner of the
vehicle using the following steps:
- Visit with the owner if possible.
- Leave a note on the vehicle informing the owner of the church
policy and requesting that the vehicle be moved. (Sample Letter
Available)
- Make contact with the owner either by letter or in person giving
the option of having the vehicle towed at the owner’s expense plus any
cost of storage.
- If the vehicle is not moved in 48 hours, notify the Police
Department that the vehicle is being towed.
- Call H & H towing to arrange for them to tow and impound the
vehicle.
Implementation of the Policy
Implementation of the above policy shall be a coordinated effort
between the pastor and chairperson of the Buildings & Grounds Committee
of the Session or a person delegated by the Chairperson.
Actions related to this policy shall be reported to the Session at
its next regularly scheduled meeting (particularly including a record of
any vehicles impounded).
Adopted by Session on April 18, 2002.
To be reviewed by Buildings & Grounds Committee.
