The OAHE MESSENGER October 2007 edition

BUILDING FUND MONEY

Thanks to generous people in the congregation we are still receiving money for the Building Fund. The Session has decided that those monies will go to the Buildings and Grounds Committee to be used for continued upgrading of the property.

A few of the things that Buildings and Grounds are working on at the moment are tinting the front door and windows in the narthex to reduce our air conditioning bills. Also replacing the worn carpet in the entry that is faded from the strong sun light with tile. We are having light switches put in where there are none now. We have started taking out the cupboards in the old kitchen and will be painting it and installing new light fixtures (the old ones aren’t in very good shape) so that we can move the library into there which will provide more exposure for the library. Some new shelves will also need to be purchased because we have more books than shelves at the moment. We have discussed putting some comfortable furniture in the room that is now the library so that we will have a place for smaller more informal meetings. We would like to paint the meeting room this fall and depending on our budget will hopefully be painting other rooms that need it as well.

As far as what is going on outside we are going to be changing the flowerbeds and painting the sign along the street. Several plans have been drawn up to improve the appearance of the area along the sidewalk between the church sign and the corner. We have a plan that we would like to do and alternate plans that we could do if we don’t have enough money to implement our first choice. Instead of having to keep painting the outside trim on the building (which really needs painting at the moment) we are looking into replacing it with something permanent that won’t need to be painted. And the list goes on. Too bad our budget doesn’t!

We have a rather lengthy wish list for "someday". A couple of things on that list are to replace the windows in the basement, which is something that really needs to be done. We have discussed the possibility of putting double doors where the middle set of windows is and making a patio out side. Then we could have fellowship events out there or small receptions using both the inside and outside. In order to solve the problem of doors always being left unlocked we would like to replace the side entrance door and basement door with doors like the front doors so that they will automatically lock behind you when you go out.

As you can see the list of things that need attention is long and Buildings and Grounds would like to thank you for your continued giving to the Building Fund. We will do our best to spend the money wisely.

2007 Peacemaking Offering

World Communion Sunday

Join us on October 7 as we celebrate World Communion Sunday and receive the

Peacemaking Offering.

On this day we join with Christians

Around the world to celebrate the unity

That we find at the Table of the Lord.

We also receive the Peacemaking Offering

To support the efforts of our congregation,

Our Presbytery, our synod, and our denomination

To spread the peace of Christ.

Twenty-five percent on the offering will be used

In the congregation for our peacemaking activities.

The other seventy-five percent will help

Our partners in the presbytery, synod, and

General Assembly as they work

On behalf of God’s peacemaking

Throughout the world.

Psalm 23

The Lord is my Shepherd

That's Relationship!

I shall not want  -

 That's Supply!

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures

That's Rest!

He leadeth me beside the still waters

 That's Refreshment!

He restoreth my soul

That's Healing!

He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness

 That's Guidance!

For His name sake

That's Purpose!

Yea, though I walk through the valley

of t he shadow of death

That's Testing!

I will fear no evil

That's Protection!

For Thou art with me

That's Faithfulness!

Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me

That's Discipline!

Thou preparest a table before me

in the presence of mine enemies

That's Hope!

Thou annointest my head with oil

That's Consecration!

My cup runneth over

 That's Abundance!

Surely goodness and mercy

shall follow me all the days of my life

That's Blessing !

And I will dwell in the house of the Lord

That's Security!

Forever

That's Eternity!

Face it, the Lord loves us.!
